Syracuse falls 3 spots to No. 15 in NFHCA Poll, drops for 2nd straight week

Syracuse field hockey fell to 15th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, which released Tuesday morning. The Orange dropped three spots from last week’s poll, where they ranked 12th after a 2-0 start. It’s the second straight week SU dropped three spots, after placing ninth in the preseason poll.
SU split its two-game slate in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge last weekend, narrowly defeating Ohio State 3-2 before falling 2-1 in a shootout to No. 17 Rutgers Sunday. Syracuse stands at 3-1 through the first two weeks of the season, yet it has a plus-two goal differential.
Six ACC teams were ranked in the poll’s top 20, more than any other conference. No. 5 North Carolina led the way and was followed by No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 9 Duke, No. 11 Virginia and No. 14 Louisville.
No. 1 Northwestern stayed atop the poll after beating the Blue Devils and Boston College this weekend. No. 2 Iowa, No. 3 Harvard, No. 4 Princeton and UNC round out the top five.
Following the shootout loss to the Scarlet Knights, Syracuse has one game this week at Bucknell Sunday. After falling three spots in back-to-back weeks, the unranked Bison present a get-right opportunity before the Orange’s home opener on Sept. 18 against UMass Lowell.
