Syracuse field hockey jumps 2 places to No. 9 in Week 5 NFHCA Poll

Syracuse field hockey rose two spots to No. 9 in the Week 5 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, which was released Tuesday. It’s the third straight week the Orange have jumped in the rankings, beginning the span at No. 15.
The rise comes after Syracuse split its opening weekend of Atlantic Coast Conference play. It convincingly upset then-No. 9 Virginia 3-0 Friday before falling 4-2 to then-No. 3 Wake Forest Sunday across a road trip.
Seven ACC teams appeared in the Week 5 poll, with Duke leading the way at No. 3. Wake Forest fell two spots to No. 5 after losing to the Blue Devils Friday, while Syracuse was the final ACC team in the top 10.
Following their matchup, the Orange swapped places with the Cavaliers, who hold the 11th spot. North Carolina jumped back into the rankings at No. 12 following a sweep of Stanford and California this weekend. No. 16 Louisville fell four spots following a loss to UC Davis, while No. 20 California rounded out the rankings.
Once again, undefeated Northwestern topped the poll, boasting a 10-0 record. Maryland remained in the second spot, while Duke, No. 4 UMass Amherst and Wake Forest completed the top five.
Once again, Syracuse faces a ranked team in a daunting challenge this weekend. It returns to North Carolina for its second straight top-three clash against Duke.
