Syracuse field hockey rises 1 spot to No. 11 in Week 4 NFHCA Poll

Syracuse field hockey rose one spot to No. 11 in the Week 4 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, released Tuesday morning. It was the second straight week Syracuse jumped, following a three-position rise to No. 12 last week.
The jump comes after the Orange narrowly defeated UMass Lowell 3-2 in their home opener Friday. The River Hawks took SU to a shootout after five periods of play could not determine a winner. The shootout score was also 3-2.
Six of the nine Atlantic Coast Conference teams were featured in the poll, with Wake Forest continuing to lead the way at No. 3. Duke followed close behind at No. 5, while No. 9 Virginia was the final ACC team in the top 10. No. 12 Louisville was one spot behind SU, and No. 17 California rounded out the conference’s showing in the poll.
Preseason No. 2 North Carolina fell out of the poll this week after falling to the Cavaliers in its ACC Opener.
No. 1 Northwestern remained atop the poll for another week, as it boasts a perfect 9-0 record through four weeks. Maryland jumped three spots to No. 2, while Wake Forest, No. 4 UMass Amherst and Duke rounded out the top five.
Syracuse faces a daunting challenge this week, with a road trip to play a pair of top-10 teams in Wake Forest and Virginia on the road.
