Syracuse field hockey rises 3 spots to No. 12 in Week 3 NFHCA Poll

Syracuse field hockey rose three spots to No. 12 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, which released Tuesday morning. SU rose in the rankings for the first time this season, following two straight weeks in which it dropped three spots after it began at No. 9.
The rise comes after the Orange blew out Bucknell 10-0 Sunday, its sole game in the third week of the season. Hattie Madden scored a hat trick, and Tane King notched her first-career shutout in goal. Eight different players found the back of the net during Sunday’s beatdown.
Seven of nine Atlantic Coast Conference teams were featured in the poll, with No. 4 Wake Forest leading the way. It was followed by No. 8 Duke, No. 9 Virginia, No. 11 North Carolina, Syracuse, No. 16 Louisville and No. 18 Cal. Stanford and Boston College were the only ACC teams not in the poll.
UNC fell the most of any team this week, plummeting six spots from No. 5 to No. 11 after an overtime loss to then-No. 20 Old Dominion and a narrow victory over Richmond. Louisville fell two spots, while the Golden Bears are ranked for the first time this season.
The reigning NCAA champion Northwestern remained atop the poll for the third straight week, while No. 2 Iowa, No. 3 Princeton, Wake Forest and No. 5 Maryland rounded out the top five.
Syracuse’s jump comes three days before it finally opens its home slate this Friday against UMass Lowell, its final tune-up before ACC play.
