SU women’s lacrosse assistant Nicole Levy hired as Hofstra’s head coach

Syracuse assistant coach Nicole Levy is departing the program to become the head coach at Hofstra, the Pride announced Friday. Levy — who played at SU from 2016-19 — spent one year as the Orange’s offensive coordinator, helping Syracuse to a 14-6 record in 2026.
Levy will be the Pride’s 10th head coach in program history. It’ll also be Levy’s first head coaching gig after seven years as an assistant.
Hofstra went 10-7 last season, missing the NCAA Tournament after it was bounced by Towson in the Coastal Athletic Conference Semifinals. Following the campaign, longtime Pride head coach Shannon Smith announced she’d step down on Aug. 14, leaving the spot vacant.
Levy, who spent time at Colorado and Florida before joining Syracuse last offseason, formed a strong relationship with SU head coach Regy Thorpe. Levy played under Thorpe at Syracuse and coached alongside him at Florida before both joined the Orange coaching staff last offseason.
“I’ve been with (Thorpe) for three years and learned so much, and there’s so much more that I know he can teach me,” Levy told The Daily Orange in January. “I do eventually want to become a head coach. And in order to do that, I need to be learning from the best, and there is no one better than Regy.”
Levy primarily worked with SU’s attack, rebuilding a unit that lost two of its most important pieces from the year prior. The Orange steadily improved throughout the campaign, as Levy brought out “the creative side” of SU’s scorers, according to attack Caroline Trinkaus. Syracuse averaged 9.65 goals on 25.9 shots per game.
Levy said her goal was to become a head coach, and that opportunity presented itself at Hofstra. Now, the Orange look for a new assistant before the 2027 season.
