The Syracuse softball team is off to its best start in program history after winning all four games at the Georgia State First Pitch Classic over the weekend. The Orange defeated Tennessee Tech, Morehead State and Georgia State by a combined score of 33-3.

Junior pitcher Jenna Caira allowed two earned runs in 23 innings en route to four wins. She threw two complete games and struck out 17 on the weekend.

Syracuse (4-0) had its toughest test in the opener against Tennessee Tech (0-2). The Golden Eagles scored a run in the first inning before the Orange scored twice in the third to take the lead. SU held on for a 2-1 win. Junior catcher Lacey Kohl and senior designated player Hallie Gibbs drove in the runs.

SU beat Morehead State (0-4) in the next two games by scores of 9-0 and 9-1. Caira had a no-hitter through four innings, and eight different Orange players recorded hits in the first game. Junior first baseman Kelly Saco went 2-for-3 with a home run.

In the second game against Morehead State, junior second baseman Stephanie Watts, Kohl and Saco each drove in two runs to lead the Orange.

Syracuse’s five-run third inning against Georgia State (3-1) paced its 13-1 win. SU took advantage of three errors and a wild pitch to score six runs. The Orange finished the game with six runs in the seventh inning.

SU will face Louisville in a rematch of last year’s Big East championship at the Bama Bash this weekend, along with No. 3 Alabama and Texas San Antonio.
