Syracuse women’s soccer splits pair of games on road trip

The Syracuse women’s soccer team fell to Ohio State on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio. The Orange surrendered one goal in each half, losing 2-0 in front of 633 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The loss capped a weekend road trip that started with a 2-0 win over St. Bonaventure (0-5-1) on Friday. SU outshot the Bonnies 17-5 in the win, but the offense struggled to get going in its second game of the weekend against the Buckeyes.

In the 31st minute of the first half, Buckeyes midfielder Samantha Lewis crossed a ball to defender Lauren Granberg, who scored from eight yards out. It was Granberg’s second goal of the season.

The score remained 1-0 until halftime.

With ten minutes to play in regulation, the Buckeyes (3-2) added to their lead. OSU forward Michela Paradiso sent a long pass to Tiffany Cameron, who dribbled along the end line and beat SU goalkeeper Brittany Anghel.

Syracuse (2-2-1) was shut out for the first time this season. Syracuse midfielder Alyscha Mottershead was the only Orange player to record shots on goal in the match with two.

SU’s next two games come next weekend in the Black Knight Classic in West Point, N.Y. The Orange will take on Long Island University on Friday at 3 p.m. and Army on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
