Syracuse women’s lacrosse (7-4, 3-2 Atlantic Coast) jumped from No. 8 to No. 7 in the Week 7 Inside Lacrosse Poll, which was released Monday. The move comes after a week when SU captured two ranked victories and three teams above it in the rankings lost.

First, Syracuse defeated then-No. 17 Loyola 14-12 Wednesday. After jumping out to a 5-1 deficit, the Greyhounds battled back to eventually tie the game 11-11 near the end of the third quarter. But late goals from Emma Muchnick and Alexa Vogelman powered the Orange to their third ranked win of the year.

SU sported a balanced attack in the contest. Despite leading scorer Emma Ward being limited to two points, Syracuse had four other players with multiple goals, led by Muchnick’s career-high five. On defense, Syracuse locked up Loyola’s star duo of Chase Boyle and Georgia Latch, holding the two to a combined four points.

The Orange took that momentum into Sunday’s matchup with then-No. 21 Notre Dame. Similar to many of its recent games, Syracuse got out to a big first-quarter advantage and surrendered it in the second quarter. But still, SU pulled away for a 12-11 win.

This time around, Ward ran the Orange’s offense, tying a game-high six points with ND’s Kristen Shanahan. SU’s attack gained momentum off a rebound on the draw, as Joely Caramelli responded to Loyola’s 19-10 advantage by going 15-9 in the circle versus the Fighting Irish.

“A lot of what the draw was today was 50/50s and fighting it out with boxing out and hustle plays, and (Caramelli) is always going to stand out when that’s the case,” SU head coach Kayla Treanor said postgame.

With just five regular-season games remaining, Syracuse’s schedule doesn’t get any easier. It faces No. 11 Virginia and No. 10 Yale before concluding its regular season against No. 1 Boston College.
