Syracuse women’s lacrosse was ranked No. 6 in the Inside Lacrosse Week 8 Poll released Monday. The Orange moved up one spot following a 13-12 win over then-No. 11 Virginia.
The win over the Cavaliers extended SU’s winning streak to a season-high four, adding to a victory over unranked Pitt, followed by a close win over then-No. 17 Loyola on the road and then a one-goal victory over then-No. 21 Notre Dame.
Versus UVA, the Orange jumped out to a 9-6 lead following a dominant 4-1 second quarter. Syracuse held on through the third quarter, but after building a 12-8 lead, the Cavaliers stormed back to tie the game with six minutes to play. With just under three minutes left, freshman Caroline Trinkaus netted a free-position shot to put SU up 13-12, and it never relinquished the lead the rest of the way despite a last-second push from UVA.
