Former USC forward Dominique Darius has transferred to Syracuse women’s basketball, she announced on social media Sunday. Darius is SU’s first portal pickup of the offseason and is the daughter of former Syracuse football defensive back Donovin Darius.
Darius started her career at UCLA, where she played two full seasons. Her best campaign came as a sophomore in 2021-22, when she averaged 5.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. The Jacksonville, Florida, native then transferred to USC midway through her junior season, forcing her to sit out the rest of the year.
However, she saw limited action in her lone season with the Trojans, averaging just 2.5 points in 8.7 minutes in 2023-24 before not playing last campaign. The lack of playing time was due to USC’s strong guard room, headlined by two-time All-American Juju Watkins.
Darius’ addition replenishes the Orange’s roster, which has been depleted due to its graduating seniors. Next season, Syracuse will be without its leading scorer Georgia Woolley, leading rebounder Kyra Wood and leading assister Dominique Camp. So, Darius along with the additions of top freshmen Jasmyn Cooper and Camdyn Nelson can be potential replacements.
SU will need to rely on its newcomers to boost a mostly lackluster roster from last season. In its first season without Dyaisha Fair, Syracuse struggled, going 12-18 and falling in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.
