Syracuse men’s rowing remained at No. 9 in the Week 2 IRCA/IRA Men’s Varsity 8+ Poll. On Saturday and Sunday, the Orange’s varsity 8 was in Redwood Shores, California, where they lost races against the California Rowing Club, No. 5 Brown and No. 5 Stanford. No. 7 Yale and No. 1 California were also in the tournament.

All five schools raced three times throughout the weekend. Of the five schools, the Orange averaged the fourth-best time, at 5:57.1. Brown beat SU in its race but averaged a time of 5:58.6 on the weekend.

In the first session on Saturday, Syracuse had the second-best time of the five colleges, only being bested by Cal, which received 10-of-11 first-place votes and is ranked first for the second straight week. That afternoon, the Orange had the worst time of the five schools. On Sunday, SU had the fourth-best time, 5.4 seconds ahead of Brown and 4.2 seconds behind the first-place Golden Bears.

This Saturday, Syracuse will race No. 20 Navy and No. 15 Cornell in Annapolis, Maryland, as both teams dropped in the rankings. The other three slated opponents for the Orange are No. 3 Dartmouth, No. 12 Boston University and No. 13 Georgetown.
