Former Syracuse wide receiver Zeed Haynes has entered the transfer portal, 247Sports reported Thursday. Haynes played just two games in 2024 and was described by head coach Fran Brown as “putting the cleats up” in the spring.
“He ain’t playing right now. He ain’t playing no more,” Brown said of Haynes on March 21. “He gonna chill. He put the cleats up, but he’s gonna dominate the work world.”
Haynes transferred to the Orange with Brown and Jackson Meeks from Georgia after the 2023 season. The No. 5 player in Pennsylvania’s 2023 class flipped between Rutgers, Penn State and Georgia before landing in Athens. But as a freshman, he recorded just one reception and entered the transfer portal to reunite with Brown.
He was a standout in spring practice and fall training camp and was seen as the consensus No. 1 option for quarterback Kyle McCord to start the 2024 season. Haynes totaled eight receptions and 97 receiving yards across SU’s first two games but quickly disappeared. When Brown was asked throughout the season about his status, the head coach said Haynes was away due to personal family matters.
Haynes returned to the sideline in early November when Syracuse faced Virginia Tech but didn’t see the field the rest of the season. Haynes was off the spring roster entering 2025 and was believed to be done with football. Now, he enters the portal with multiple years of eligibility remaining.
