Syracuse women’s lacrosse (9-8, 5-4 Atlantic Coast) dropped two spots to No. 19 in the Week 13 Inside Lacrosse Poll, released Monday. The Orange didn’t play this week but slipped to their lowest ranking since 2018 after losing their last three games.
The slide began with SU’s unranked loss to Virginia Tech and decimation by No. 2 Boston College to end its regular season. Coming into the campaign after winning the 2024 ACC regular season title, the Orange settled with the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament this time around.
On April 23, Syracuse faced No. 3 Seed Stanford in the tournament’s first round. SU avoided conference juggernauts BC and No. 1 North Carolina and was playing a team it’d already beaten. But the Orange continued to spiral.
They started out strong, going up 8-4 due to a 7-0 run in the first and second quarters. But in the second half, SU unraveled, being outscored 10-2 to seal a 15-10 Cardinal win and knock Syracuse out of the bracket. The Orange played sloppily throughout, totaling 22 turnovers while goalie Daniella Guyette made just three saves.
Now, Syracuse will face No. 21 Brown in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday after earning an at-large bid, hoping to salvage its season and avoid finishing at .500 on the year. If it beats the Bears, SU will likely face No. 7 Seed Yale in the second round.
