Three-star cornerback Jaxson Gates has decommitted from Syracuse’s 2026 class, he announced on social media Monday. Gates was the Orange’s first commit from California since 2023 when he chose them in November 2024.

Gates’ decision comes one day after SU landed a commitment from 2026 three-star cornerback Chase Geter. Both Gates and Geter have been given an 88 grade, according to 247Sports.

Gates made four official visits in the last month, which included trips to Syracuse, Utah, Michigan State and BYU. Now, the 48th-ranked cornerback in the nation is reopening his recruitment.

As a junior at Damien High School (California), Gates posted 30 total tackles and six passes defended.

Before Gates’ decommitment, Syracuse had the 26th-ranked class in the nation, according to 247Sports. Following his decommitment, the Orange’s 2026 class stands at 23 commits and is ranked 31st in the nation. It also ranks ninth in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
