Robert Harris has been named Syracuse men’s basketball’s director of strength and conditioning, the team announced Tuesday. Harris’ hire comes after Ryan Cabiles — who held the position for 18 years — parted ways with the team on April 21.
Harris brings high-level experience to SU. He most recently served as Austin Peay’s men’s basketball director of sports performance from 2023-25.
Before his time with the Governors, Harris held the role of head strength and conditioning coach for Kentucky’s basketball team for nine years, until 2023. During his tenure with the Wildcats, he trained over 20 players who were selected in the NBA Draft. Harris also contributed to seven NCAA Tournament trips.
“Rob brings championship-level experience, toughness and a relentless work ethic to our program,” Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry said. “His track record speaks for itself. He knows what it takes to develop elite athletes and build a winning culture.”
Harris also has involvement in other sports, having spent a year as Arkansas’ football assistant strength and conditioning coach and previously serving as an assistant with the National Football League’s Cincinnati Bengals.
