The National Field Hockey Coaches Association Preseason Poll ranked Syracuse field hockey No. 11 Tuesday. The Orange are tied with UConn with 99 points and have 11 more than No. 13 Ohio State. SU didn’t record any first-place votes.
After starting 2024 ranked No. 10, Syracuse finished the year ranked No. 11. The Orange’s season ended with a 1-0 defeat to then-No. 10 Harvard in the NCAA Tournament second round. Since the loss, SU’s offensive engine and second-leading scorer, Willemijn Boogert, left the program.
No. 1 Northwestern leads the poll for the second straight year with 200 points, closely followed by No. 2 North Carolina (188) and No. 3 Virginia (173). Syracuse, No. 5 Duke, No. 8 Boston College, UNC, Virginia and No. 20 Wake Forest make up the Atlantic Coast Conference’s six teams in the poll.
Under third-year head coach Lynn Farquhar, SU opens its season at home against Lock Haven on Friday and Fairfield on Sunday. Syracuse’s first road test comes in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge next weekend, when it’ll square off against No. 16 Rutgers and the Buckeyes.
