Syracuse field hockey remained at No. 9 in Tuesday’s Week 8 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll. The ranking comes after the Orange secured an Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament appearance with a 3-1 win over Boston College on Friday.
SU scored three unanswered goals to open its matchup with the Eagles before conceding one in the fourth quarter. Three different players found the back of the net for the Orange.
Although SU earned 134 points in the poll, three more than last week, No. 10 Iowa closed the gap. With 128 points, the Hawkeyes are six shy of the Orange, 23 less than their deficit in Week 7.
Whereas the top spot was a hot contest last week, with only one first-place vote separating No. 1 North Carolina and No. 2 Northwestern, the Tar Heels (217) received eight first-place votes to the Wildcats’ (210) three. No. 4 Virginia, No. 6 Wake Forest and No. 8 Duke round out the rest of the ACC’s top 10 selections.
Syracuse wraps up regular-season play on Saturday against Louisville before the ACC Tournament begins on Nov. 4.
