Bo van Kempen, Lieke Leeggangers and Aiden Drabick were named to All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams, the conference announced on Monday. Van Kempen and Leeggangers claimed First Team honors, while Drabick was named to the Second Team.
In her second season with the Orange, van Kempen’s been masterful, scoring six goals in the season opener on Aug. 29 against Lock Haven and never looking back. The graduate student leads SU in goals (19), points (43), game-winners (four) and minutes (857) and is also an instrumental part of the defense, which allows the fourth-fewest goals in the ACC. It’s van Kempen’s second straight year claiming All-ACC First Team honors.
Leeggangers has also been solid in her senior year, tying a career-high with three goals. Despite a near-two-month scoring drought, she recently scored in consecutive games against then-No. 2 North Carolina and Boston College. It’s Leeggangers’ first-career All-ACC honor.
Drabick’s strong playmaking and ball-handling skills led Syracuse to record 56 assists, second in the ACC behind UNC (61). The senior hasn’t tallied a goal this season but has two assists, most recently finding Leeggangers against the Tar Heels on Oct. 17.
These contributions have propelled No. 9 SU to an 11-5 record, and it’ll take on No. 6 Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinal Tuesday.
