Syracuse University’s newly created Office of People and Culture unit is accepting applications for its Administrative Fellowship program, the university announced Monday.

The program, through the OPC — which replaced SU’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion — focuses on staff retention and professional growth, aiming to encourage mid-level staff to stay with the university through mentorship.

The fellowship started in 2023 under the ODI, with previous fellows Amy Messersmith and Jorge Castillo. The current fellows are Diane Crawford and Qingyi Yu.

The selected fellow will develop, implement and assess an “innovative project” on campus, over a course of one to two years, receiving financial support, mentorship and professional development opportunities.

The project must support one or more of the OPC’s priorities of community building, professional development, employee retention and disability access, according to the application.

When the program selected its 2023 inaugural fellow, Messersmith, she said the fellowship was unique and “validating” as a mid-level professional staff, according to the release.

“To say that you are conducting a project as an Office of People and Culture Fellow lands very differently than just a random person on campus with a specific interest,” Messersmith said in the release.

Selected fellow benefits:

  • A yearly stipend of $10,000
  • $5,000 per year in program funds for their approved project
  • $1,500 per year for approved professional development opportunities
  • Mentorship from the OPC vice president and senior leaders
  • Participation in OPC staff retreats, meetings, events, working groups and special projects

Minimum requirements:

  • Current full-time employee, benefits-eligible staff member at SU
  • Minimum five years of professional experience, bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Minimum two years of administrative experience in their current position at SU

Applications are open until Nov. 25. Questions can be sent to opc@syr.edu.
