Three 2026 three-star Syracuse recruits — E’Shawn Sutton, Zikhere Leaks and D’Antae Sheffey — decommitted from SU on social media Sunday, a day after it was obliterated by No. 9 Notre Dame 70-7.

Sutton, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound athlete from Winter Park, Florida, committed to the Orange in March over Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest. He was one of many SU commits in its 2026, 2027 and 2028 classes to hail from the Sunshine State. Sutton played a multitude of positions, including running back, safety and nickel corner, at Winter Park High School and even said he was excited to play both ways with the Orange, similar to 17-year-old Demetres Samuel Jr. However, a day after SU’s worst loss since 1893, Sutton reopened his recruitment.

Leaks followed suit within an hour of Sutton’s decision. A 6-foot-2, 190-pound wide receiver from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Leaks starred for Susquehanna Township with 38 receptions, 629 yards and 10 touchdowns in 11 games. Leaks committed to Syracuse in June but decommitted on Sunday after a phone call with Orange head coach Fran Brown.

At 10:40 p.m., Sheffey became Syracuse’s third 2026 recruit to decommit. After transferring back to State College Area High School (Pennsylvania) for his senior year, Sheffey registered 26 touchdowns and 1,610 rushing yards — 427 more than his mentor and Syracuse offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon’s total at State College. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound running back named Pittsburgh, UConn, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati and Rutgers as potential suitors after decommitting.

Syracuse still holds the nation’s 26th-best 2026 recruiting class, highlighted by 5-star wide receiver Calvin Russell, per 247Sports, but it now has seven decommitments.
