Syracuse center Uche Izoje was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Izoje is the first SU player to take the honor since 2023.

Izoje, who joined Syracuse after playing professionally in Japan, tallied 20 points, nine rebounds, seven blocks and two steals in Sunday’s win over Howard. It was a new career-high in points and blocks for the freshman.

In her first campaign, Izoje’s been a steady presence for the Orange, starting all seven of SU’s games thus far. She ranks second on the team with 12.4 points per game at a 60.3% field goal percentage, while leading Syracuse with 6.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks a game.

SU head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said she believes Izoje could evolve into a Paige Bueckers or Hannah Hidalgo-esque star for Syracuse. She’s shown flashes early on, and Monday’s honor represents a step toward that stardom.
