Syracuse wide receiver Jaylan Hornsby plans to enter the transfer portal, according to 247Sports’ Chris Hummer. Hornsby spent two seasons with the Orange, recording 10 catches for 124 yards, and has three years of eligibility remaining.
Hornsby came to Syracuse as a three-star recruit from Atco, New Jersey. He was initially committed to Texas A&M, but flipped to the Orange once Fran Brown and then-Texas A&M defensive line coach Elijah Robinson were hired by SU.
The wide receiver never broke out with Syracuse. He spent his freshman and sophomore seasons in crowded receiver rooms with limited snaps. He played in just four games as a freshman before redshirting, in which he caught two passes.
In 2025, Hornsby’s role remained limited. Receivers like Darrell Gill Jr., Johntay Cook and Justus Ross-Simmons took up most of the snaps. It also didn’t help that Syracuse’s passing attack was mute once Steve Angeli tore his Achilles. Hornsby totaled eight catches for 103 yards and a touchdown this season. Most of it came across a two game stretch against UConn and Colgate, where he combined for seven catches for 91 yards and a score.
Hornsby’s departure leaves Cook, Gill, Emanuel Ross, Darius Johnson and five-star freshman Calvin Russell as Syracuse’s receivers next season. It’s a talented group that could put up serious numbers if Angeli remains healthy the entire season.
