Syracuse University’s Chancellor Search Committee has narrowed down its candidates to a “smaller group,” committee co-chairs Shelly Fisher and Lisa Fontenelli wrote in a Tuesday campus-wide email.
In the past few weeks, the committee has conducted several interviews with potential candidates and are now moving on to the next phase of the process, the email states.
“These initial interviews have gone extremely well, and we are encouraged by the caliber of leadership represented in the candidates,” the email states.
SU’s Board of Trustees formed the search committee in September after SU Chancellor Kent Syverud announced he would be stepping down at the end of this academic year. Since then, the committee has hosted engagement sessions with SU students, faculty, staff and alumni to give input on the next chancellor.
The committee finalized and announced the next chancellor’s official position description on Oct. 14.
In the Tuesday email, the co-chairs also thanked members of the SU community for their “instrumental” engagement and support.
The committee hopes to select the next chancellor in the spring for the start of the 2026-27 academic year.
