A third Syracuse football player has declared for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Offensive lineman Da’Metrius Weatherspoon announced his decision Wednesday afternoon on social media, joining defensive back Duce Chestnut and punter Jack Stonehouse. The move comes as no surprise, as Weatherspoon transferred to SU in 2024 after three seasons at Howard to chase his NFL dreams, saying, “If I want to go to the league, I got (to) look the part.”

Weatherspoon, a 6-foot-7, 320-pound tackle, played 818 snaps on the offensive line for the Orange this season, adding 31 on field goals and extra points. In Syracuse’s Week 1 loss to then-No. 24 Tennessee, the redshirt senior played a season-high 90 snaps. He earned a 73.3 offensive grade across 12 games, the nation’s 52nd-best mark, per Pro Football Focus.

In 2024, Weatherspoon played 747 snaps with 10 starts at left tackle, paving the way for LeQuint Allen Jr.’s 1,000-yard season and protecting Kyle McCord as he led the nation in passing yards.

The transition to the left side was initially difficult for Weatherspoon, who played right tackle at Howard. However, he became a top left tackle at SU, earning Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week in Week 2 of 2024 after the Orange’s 31-28 win over then-No. 23 Georgia Tech.

At Howard, Weatherspoon tallied just 11 snaps across his first two seasons before starting 12 games and becoming an HBCU All-American in 2023.

Weatherspoon likely won’t be SU’s only departure up front, as redshirt senior center Austin Collins and redshirt senior guard TJ Ferguson are also eligible for the NFL Draft.
