Former Syracuse quarterback Luke Carney transferred to Houston, CBS Sports reported Monday. Carney appeared in four games in his freshman campaign and preserved his redshirt after tallying 50 total yards.
Carney entered SU as a three-star recruit out of Mesquite, Texas. He led Dallas Christian High School to four straight Texas state titles while passing for 10,787 yards.
In 2025, Carney was part of the quarterback roulette after Steve Angeli went down with a season-ending injury. Carney rushed for a touchdown versus Colgate once Angeli exited in a blowout.
Against Pitt, Rickie Collins started the game, but Carney entered for a few drives. Carney didn’t do much, and the Orange lost by 17 points. He went 2-for-3 with 10 yards and nine rushing yards.
He came in again versus North Carolina and took a sack with 10 rushing yards. Against Notre Dame, Carney passed four times with three completions. Carney preserved his redshirt by sitting out the final game against Boston College. With Carney leaving Syracuse, he joins Rickie Collins and Jakhari Williams in exiting.
The Orange brought in Amari Odom from Kennesaw State and Angeli, Rich Belin and Zaid Lott are also expected to be in the quarterback room.
