Academic support programs at Syracuse University have been relocated to the new Center for Student Excellence, SU announced in a Tuesday release.
The center combines the offices of 13 programs into a centralized location at 100 Sims Drive. It was designed to make finding academic help resources easier for students, the release states.
SU established the CSE to unify SU’s academic support services under one unified structure, according to a November 2025 release. The new center aims to align with SU’s three pillars for student success: academic success, student development and experiential learning and community engagement.
Programs now located at CSE include:
- First Year Seminar (FYS)
- Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS)
- Retention and Student Success
- Syracuse Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement (SOURCE)
- Center for Fellowship and Scholarship Advising
- Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP)
- McNair Scholars Program
- Our Time Has Come Scholars
- Remembrance Scholars
- Shaw Center for Public and Community Service
- Living Learning Communities
- Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP)
- College Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)
Before the change, CLASS, FYS and SOURCE were located at Bird Library and HEOP at the College of Professional Studies.

While the programs have historically collaborated, the relocation marks the first time most are housed in the same physical location, Assistant Provost for Academic Programs and SCE Director Tommy Powell said in a Tuesday campus-wide email.
“This creates a centralized hub for student success and makes it even easier for you to access and benefit from the programs that will help you thrive,” Powell wrote.
Powell wrote that the goal of the new location is to support not just academics, but the full student experience.
The consolidation is designed to reduce barriers students may face when seeking support, the Tuesday release states.
For more information, Powell wrote that students may contact the center by phone at 315-443-2005 or reach out directly to him.
