Haraz Coffee House was temporarily closed after a fire code violation issued Wednesday. Haraz plans to reopen this week, the business confirmed Sunday.
The Syracuse Police Department prohibited Haraz from operating due to unauthorized work done to its sprinkler system, according to a Fire Prevention Bureau notice posted at the store’s entrance. On Wednesday, Syracuse’s Department of Neighborhood and Business Development issued a stop-work order, immediately shutting down the store’s operations, according to another notice posted at the door.
Haraz’s bathroom sprinkler system issues were resolved and will be reinspected Monday morning, the business wrote in a statement to The Daily Orange. The shop hopes to reopen Tuesday.
The closure comes only weeks after its official opening in early January. Haraz, a Yemeni and American-style coffee and tea shop, is the newest addition to Marshall Street. The store stands in the building where Shirt World operated for 48 years before its closure in 2024.
Syracuse’s shop is one of Haraz’s 43 locations nationwide, with 185 more in development.
Haraz’s New York operations manager Emad Zokari told The D.O. in January the chain hopes to expand its presence in central New York with additional locations in the area.
