Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety is currently investigating attempted car thefts and break-ins on South Campus from the past week, according to a Monday campus-wide email.
Hyundai and Kia models have been “specifically targeted” during the incidents, DPS wrote, though other cars have also been impacted.
DPS urged students to always lock their car doors, fully close windows and never leave valuables, including keys, inside of their cars. DPS also recommended that students park in well-lit locations when possible and contact DPS directly with any car damage or evidence of tampering immediately.
To report suspicious activity or any information related to the break-ins, students can call DPS at 315-443-2224, as well as the Syracuse Police Department, or anonymously report a non-emergency to DPS through the Orange Safe app.
