Syracuse center Uche Izoje won the ACC Rookie of the Week award, the conference announced Monday. It’s Izoje’s seventh time taking home the honor, extending SU’s program record.
The accolade comes after Izoje’s monster performance in Syracuse’s 82-69 loss to NC State Sunday. She scored 26 points on 13-of-20 shooting and hauled in 14 rebounds, completing her 11th double-double of the season and first since Jan. 29 against Georgia Tech.
Nonetheless, the Orange fell to the Wolfpack by 13 after conceding an 18-0 run in the first half. Izoje carried SU’s offense all afternoon, helping it stay within 15 points most of the afternoon.
It was perhaps an indication that Izoje’s breaking out of a brief slump. She’d been averaging just 13.8 points per game over her past six games but exploded for a near-season-high against NC State.
While she’s won the award a program-record seven times, the award is Izoje’s first since the week of Jan. 26, which came after her 27-point double-double against North Carolina.
