Academy Award-nominated actress Danielle Brooks is visiting Syracuse University on Sunday for University Union’s and the Office of Belonging and Student Success’ upcoming show “A Conversation with Danielle Brooks.”
The show will take place in Schine Student Center’s Goldstein Auditorium, and sophomore Laone Molele will moderate the event. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are free for SU and ESF students and are now available through a Student MyCuse Account.
Brooks’ SU visit is part of the closing celebration of Black History Month. Brooks’ first breakout role was in Netflix’s drama TV hit “Orange is the New Black.” For her role as Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson, she was nominated three times for the NAACP Image Awards nominations during the show’s tenure.
More recently, Brooks was featured as a supporting actress in the 2025 “A Minecraft Movie.” In the 2023 movie musical “The Color Purple,” she played Sofia, which earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 96th Annual Academy Awards.
Brooks also has success on Broadway, most recently, in the 2022 play “The Piano Lesson,” for her role as Berniece. Additionally, in 2016, Brooks was nominated for a Tony for “The Color Purple” musical.
Students are also invited to a reception before the show. The reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Atrium with an all black semi-formal attire.
