Syracuse women’s lacrosse (2-3, 1-2, Atlantic Coast) rose one spot to No. 14 in the Week 4 Inside Lacrosse Poll, which was released Monday. The jump comes after the Orange responded to their 0-3 start with two consecutive wins.
They slot in as the ACC’s fifth-best squad behind No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Stanford, No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 9 Boston College. Syracuse jumped No. 15 Clemson, which fell six spots after losing to BC on Saturday.
SU handily beat then-No. 13 Loyola 15-7 on Tuesday for head coach Regy Thorpe’s first win at the helm. The Orange experimented with different rotations, which brought out the best in many of their normal starters. After the demolition, the Greyhounds fell three spots.
At Louisville Saturday, SU triumphed 13-10 for its first ACC win of the season after dropping contests to conference powerhouses North Carolina and Stanford. Sophomore Molly Guzik emerged with a career-high four goals, while Syracuse caused 19 turnovers on defense — its most in seven years.
Finally out of their gauntlet, which also included a loss to No. 3 Maryland, the Orange have found their footing. They’ll have favorable opportunities to nab two more conference wins and up their ranking in the coming week, hosting Cal Tuesday and Virginia Tech Friday before the schedule ramps up with three consecutive ranked opponents.
