SU announces new roles, forum for 2026 DPS Community Review Board

Syracuse University opened applications for eight seats on the Community Review Board, according to a Monday release.
The board, which consists of 11 students, faculty and staff, reviews civilian complaints within the Department of Public Safety regarding officer conduct, training and community relations.
The CRB also issues an annual report of safety findings and recommendations. The 2025 report is set to come out this spring, according to the release.
Out of the 11-member board, there are currently eight open seats.
- Two undergraduate students will be selected by the Student Government Association
- One graduate student will be selected by the Graduate School Advisory Council
- A law student will be selected by executive president of the Student Bar Association, Emery Bielecki
- Two staff members will be selected by the Office of Human Resources
- One faculty member will be selected by Dong Yung and Joyce Zadzilka, co-chairs of the University Senate Committee on Employee Services, Fiscal Affairs and Operations
- One SU administrator will be selected by Chancellor Kent Syverud
SU also announced an April open forum to learn more about the board’s role on campus.
The forum will be held April 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Schine Student Center. The forum serves as an opportunity to share experiences “related to DPS and policing on campus,” according to the release.
One topic up for discussion is DPS’s Taser and Automated License Plate Reader technology and its operating procedures. The CRB is engaging in a review process for the technology and evaluating feedback, according to the release.
New members of the board will be notified by Monday, April 29.
