Syracuse goaltender Ava Drabyk was named to the All-Atlantic Hockey America Rookie Team, the conference announced Wednesday.

Drabyk finished her freshman campaign as the conference’s third-most efficient netminder with a 2.38 goals against average. Her 92.2% save percentage was first among freshmen and slots in third in AHA, only trailing the netminders of Penn State and Mercyhurst, the teams alive in the conference finals. No AHA goaltender has more saves than Drabyk, who’s accrued 926.

Replacing Allie Kelley, the NCAA’s all-time saves leader, was a challenge the freshman was immediately up to. Drabyk rotated with Maïka Paquin and Bella Gould in the first few games, but she won the starting job and kept it.

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native recorded five shutouts this campaign, four of which were on the road. The mark was the third-most by an SU goalie in team history. In AHA, she trailed PSU’s Katie DeSa and RMU’s Maggie Hatch, while tying for eighth in the country.

While the Orange are losing five seniors, they have future security between the pipes, shown by Drabyk’s five weekly AHA awards through 34 starts.
