Elizabeth “Liz” Turner, assistant director of advising at Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management, died on Feb. 23, the university announced in a Wednesday release.

Turner, who joined Whitman in 2016, earned a reputation for patience, positive energy and a “genuine commitment to student success,” the release states. In 2020, she received the Whitman Rising Star Award.

Turner faced “serious health challenges” that occasionally required her to leave campus, according to the release. She died at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York at 37. Her colleagues remember her for her enthusiasm and dedication to students and staff.

“Work wasn’t just a job to Liz—it was a source of purpose and joy,” wrote Assistant Dean of Academic Programs and Student Success Lindsay Quilty in an email to Whitman students, staff and faculty this week.

The university shared Turner’s obituary for those wishing to share condolences.
