Syracuse softball’s opening contests of the UMBC Tournament have been canceled. The Orange were scheduled to play a doubleheader against UAlbany and University of Maryland, Baltimore County at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, but had the contests cancelled due to inclement weather.

Just before 9 a.m., SU softball announced via X that overnight rain in Baltimore, Maryland pushed the start times for all games Friday back by two hours. An hour later, first pitch against UAlbany had been delayed an additional 60 minutes.

Shortly after the initially scheduled start time of SU’s first game had come and gone, the team announced a new schedule update: All Friday games were canceled.

The cancellations are Syracuse’s fourth and fifth this season. It’s the most the Orange have had through the first weekend of March since the 2021 season.

This first weekend of March also marks Syracuse softball’s last weekend before Atlantic Coast Conference play begins. SU meets Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida next weekend to kick off its conference slate with a three-game series.

First, though, come three more tune up opportunities in Baltimore. Syracuse is scheduled to play another doubleheader Saturday in Day 2 of the UMBC Tournament, facing UAlbany at 12:30 p.m. and UMBC at 5:30 p.m. The Orange will then close out their early-season tournament slate against Morgan State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
