Syracuse men’s lacrosse has swept the Atlantic Coast Conference’s weekly honors for the third time this season, the conference announced Tuesday.
Attack Joey Spallina took home the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, while goalie Jimmy McCool earned the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week. It’s Spallina’s third time in six weeks receiving the award this season. McCool takes home the honors for the second time in 2026.
The recognition came after the No. 8 Orange dispatched then-No. 11 Johns Hopkins 12-8 in Baltimore Saturday. In the triumph, Spallina logged seven points with four goals and three assists to spearhead SU’s offensive return to form.
“The two Ivy League games (losses at Harvard and Princeton) I don’t think were Syracuse lacrosse at all,” Spallina said. “(Winning in overtime at) Penn, I think we started to do it a little bit towards the end of that game.
“I think today was the first time in a bit where we looked like ourselves,” Spallina added later.
McCool faced 53 JHU shots, but let in single-digit goals for the fifth time in seven games this year. The Massachusetts native recorded 14 saves and a 63.6% save percentage versus the Blue Jays.
Spallina and McCool’s sweep of the conference’s player of the week marked the sixth and seventh time an Orange player has received the award. The pair claimed the honors on Feb. 10, too. Spallina and defender Riley Figueiras cleaned up the award following SU’s victory over then-No. 1 Maryland. Finally, faceoff man John Mullen won the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 3.
The Orange’s sole game this week is in Colorado Springs against Air Force Thursday. The Falcons have lost their last five games, so another productive day for Syracuse may be in order.
