Syracuse softball’s series finale against No. 18 Virginia Sunday was canceled due to rain, the team announced. The game was initially pushed back from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. before the cancellation.

Weather has hindered the Orange from building momentum this season. Including Sunday, SU has had nine games canceled through the first two months of its 2026 campaign. After its Friday tilt with UVA was canceled due to rain, Syracuse was forced to play a doubleheader Saturday and dropped both games.

In the first leg of its doubleheader, SU fell to the Cavaliers 7-1 behind abysmal hitting and inconsistent pitching. The Orange mustered just one hit on an Erika Zamora home run, while starting pitcher Madison Knight threw 148 pitches across seven innings but allowed seven runs.

The second game wasn’t much better. Kendall Gaunt’s three-run homer provided Syracuse a brief spark late, but it still lost 9-4 to fall under .500 on the season.

Constant cancellations don’t help, but the Orange are still in a significant funk. After losing both games Saturday and getting swept by then-No. 10 Florida State last weekend, SU is a woeful 0-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
