Brad Horn, the current associate dean of strategic initiatives at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications, will serve as Provost Lois Agnew’s Innovation Fellow, the university announced in a Tuesday release.
Horn will support faculty in creating industry partnerships and providing students and faculty with learning opportunities and professional connections, according to the release. He will also develop “new revenue streams” through academic-industry initiatives.
“I am excited to welcome Professor Horn into this role and know he is the perfect person to lead this important initiative,” Agnew stated in the release.
Horn will report directly to Agnew and work closely with the academic affairs leadership team, SU’s Division of Communications deans and associate deans across the university.
His two-year appointment will begin Aug. 15.
Since July 2022, Horn has served as Newhouse’s associate dean of strategic initiatives. He’s also been a professor of practice in public relations since August 2018.
“Connecting students with innovative industry experiences has been the uniting passion of my work since joining the Newhouse faculty in 2018,” Horn stated in the release.
The release credits Horn for developing multiple Newhouse partnerships with companies such as Delta Airlines and Lockheed Martin. In addition, he’s helped create collaborative partnerships for students, such as deals with Sony, Spectrum News and CBS.
Each June, Horn leads a study abroad course in Switzerland on international public relations.
Before joining SU, Horn spent over 20 years in communications leadership roles in Major League Baseball and the International Olympic Committee, including vice president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and head of communications for the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
“I can think of no one better positioned to shape this strategy from the ground up and ensure that Syracuse remains at the forefront of academic-industry collaboration,” Agnew wrote in the release.
