Syracuse women’s lacrosse dropped one spot to No. 4 in Inside Lacrosse’s Week 10 Poll, which was released Monday morning. The Orange outlasted No. 14 Notre Dame 10-9 in quadruple overtime Saturday. It was the longest game in SU women’s lacrosse program history.

The victory extended Syracuse’s winning streak to 12 games, which — after previously-undefeated Maryland fell to Northwestern — is the longest in the nation. Still, North Carolina dominated No. 8 Stanford, dropping the Orange in the ranking.

Thirty minutes into its clash with the Fighting Irish Saturday, Syracuse was on pace to lose. It trailed at halftime for the first time since its season-opener against the Terrapins and had four shots on goal, its fewest since Feb. 20 against Stanford.

But in the second half, the momentum flipped. The Orange scored two straight goals at the start of the third quarter before a four-goal burst across the third and fourth frames. SU led 9-6 with seven minutes left.

Then, you guessed it; the Fighting Irish clawed back. Notre Dame went on a three-goal run to force overtime. Neither team attempted a shot on goal in the first overtime. ND turned the ball over three times in those five minutes alone.

Syracuse took one shot on target over the next two overtime periods, while Notre Dame tried three. Finally, Caroline Trinkaus found the back of the net with one second left in the fourth overtime, keeping Syracuse perfect since its season-opening three-game skid.

The Orange cap their regular season Thursday with a trip to No. 16 Boston College, where they suffered their worst loss in 20 years last campaign.
