Syracuse men’s rowing maintained its spot at No. 9 in the Week 3 Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association/Intercollegiate Rowing Association Varsity 8+ Poll, which was released Wednesday. It’s the second straight week the Orange come in at No. 9.
SU didn’t see an improvement in its ranking despite continued success in both the Goes and Stagg trophies. It’s now earned the honors for six and seven straight years, respectively.
Syracuse’s varsity 8 capped off the annual meet, which dates back to 1955, with a program-best sixth win in the Goes Trophy competition against No. 13 Cornell and No. 15 Navy. The Orange (5:32.50) won the race by 4.7 seconds, crossing the finish line before the Big Red (5:37.20) and the Midshipmen (5:42.40).
This weekend, Syracuse races at the Lake Morey Invite in Fairlee, Vermont. There, SU will compete in its final two cup races of the regular season against No. 7 Dartmouth (Packard Cup), No. 12 Boston University (Conlan Cup) and No. 19 Georgetown.
Last year, the Orange took home the Conlan Cup with a narrow victory over BU but lost the Packard Cup, falling short of Dartmouth.
