Syracuse men’s basketball has found its next general manager.
On Wednesday evening, Syracuse.com reported the Orange are expected to hire Hampton Uniersity’s Greg Fahey. Fahey fills a role previously held by Alex Kline, who was let go by SU on March 11 after two seasons with the program.
Fahey is now SU’s second general manager, a position created to help with various tasks in the name, image and likeness space, the transfer portal and scouting and recruiting. He’s currently in his second year at Hampton, where he’s its associate head coach and general manager.
With the Pirates, a Coastal Athletic Association program, Fahey also manages roster construction and cap management.
Before his time at Hampton, Fahey worked under Ed Cooley at Georgetown, served as an assistant at Siena for four seasons and was a graduate assistant at Providence College. A 2013 graduate of Marist College, Fahey’s coaching career began at New Jersey powerhouse prep school St. Benedict’s.
Simultaneously, Fahey spent four seasons on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League circuit with the City Rocks. He served as an assistant coach before becoming the 16U EYBL team’s head coach for his final year.
Fahey joins a brand new Orange coaching staff, headlined by first-year head coach Gerry McNamara. Alongside McNamara, SU’s brought in four assistant coaches, a director of basketball operations and a director of player engagement.
