Syracuse track and field’s Jamir Brown earned the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. It’s Brown’s third weekly conference award, winning another outdoor one on March 25 and an indoor one on Jan. 20. All three were bestowed for Brown’s hurdle performances.
Tuesday’s award comes after the sophomore’s 110-meter hurdle performance at this weekend’s East Coast Relays, posting a 13.39 time in the preliminary round. In addition to it being Brown’s personal-best time, it ranked as the fastest in the ACC, fourth-fastest in the NCAA East Region and seventh-fastest in Division I.
Brown has emerged as the Orange’s top hurdler this season and even thrived in the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, placing 14th nationally.
The weekend’s performance all but guarantees Brown a spot in the NCAA East Preliminary — which takes place from May 28-30 — for a chance at an appearance in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, from June 10-13.
Brown and SU will spend two weekends in Kentucky later this month. One for the ACC Championships in Louisville, which span from Thursday to Saturday. The next is in Lexington for the aforementioned preliminary round.
