Syracuse University places Alpha Epsilon Pi under investigative status

Syracuse University’s chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi is under investigation as of Sept. 18, according to the university’s Hazing Awareness Hub.
The investigation comes eight months after AEPi was reinstated on campus after a nearly eight-year suspension. The status puts the fraternity under investigation by Community Standards.
This marks the fourth fraternity to be placed under investigative status this calendar year. Sigma Alpha Epsilon was investigated last fall for alleged hazing and Theta Chi faced an investigation in February along with Lambda Chi Alpha. SAE and Theta Chi were later placed on probationary status, issued May 6 and May 20 respectively.

AEPi was suspended in 2018 for a violation of the Student Code of Conduct and Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Policies. While the specific violations are unclear, the fraternity threatened the safety of a student during its new member process, a university spokesperson told The Daily Orange in 2018.
There is no timeline for the current investigation, as the length depends on interviews, scheduling constraints and other factors, an SU spokesperson previously told The D. O.
The university, its chapter of AEPi and the organization’s nationals did not immediately respond to The D.O.’s request for comment.
In addition to AEPi, SU’s Club Baseball team was placed under investigative status on Sept. 4. The baseball team did not immediately respond to The D.O.’s request for comment.
