Cheers and jeers

Cheer – Lisa Miller, most known for her provocative article published in Newsweek about gay marriage and the Bible, sparked a campus-wide debate from a usual apathetic student body. Sure, it almost turned into a crucifixion itself, but any debate is healthy debate. Just leave the cross at home.

Jeer – Syracuse could have had a triple crown, but Notre Dame pulled through in the end and swept the last category – environmental awareness. SU beat ND in both basketball and football, but a recent competition from carbonrally.com put ND on top. Not to be a sore loser or anything, but it was an online sign-up competition with no commitment to actually be green. ND can take bragging rights on this one.

Cheer/Jeer – The Illinois Senate voted unanimously on Thursday to remove impeached Gov. Rod Blagojevich from office after he tried to sell Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat.Cheer – Illinois decided to remove corruption for the state’s politics – always an admirable move. Jeer – There goes the most interesting story of the year. It was a circus with all the theatrics. The whole saga became a sitcom, ‘tune in next time to see what he says next.’ Plus, his coif could rival Donald Trump’s. He must mousse.

Cheer – A man has been cited for public intoxication while riding a white horse during a snowstorm in the northern Wyoming town of Cody. Police received a motorist who was concerned that a man was creating a road hazard by riding his horse on a street in conditions with poor visibility. Cheers to the man to find something to do in Wyoming. And cheers to Wyoming for being in the news. Who knew that people actually were there?
