Junior guard Brittney Sykes will miss the rest of the season after re-injuring her ACL in her right knee against No. 4 Notre Dame on Sunday, SU Athletics announced Tuesday afternoon.

Sykes missed the first 11 games of the season recovering from a torn ACL and meniscus that she suffered on March 22 against Chattanooga in the first round of the NCAA tournament. She had been playing this season with a brace on her right knee.

In just her third game back this year, Sykes mad a steal and was running toward the hoop when play stopped with 6:03 left in the first half against the Fighting Irish. She walked to the locker room on her own power with tears in her eyes, but appeared to be limping and not putting any pressure on her right leg.

Sykes scored just seven points in 43 minutes this season for No. 21 Syracuse (10-4) after leading the Orange in scoring with 16.6 points per game last year.

“I am confident Brittney is going to do everything she can to return to the court at 100 percent,” head coach Quentin Hillsman said in the release. “She will have the complete support of every person in this program in that process.”
