Former Cincinnati forward Tyler Betsey has transferred to Syracuse, he announced on social media Friday. Betsey was ranked 247Sports’ No. 53 class of 2024 prospect before averaging 3.3 points per game as a freshman with the Bearcats.

The forward is SU’s sixth transfer portal addition, joining William Kyle III, Nate Kingz, Nait George, Ibrahim Souare and Bryce Zephir. Standing 6-foot-8 and 225 pounds, Betsey adds wing size to the Orange. He can play both small forward and power forward, though will likely see more minutes at the former with SU’s frontcourt depth including Donnie Freeman, Sadiq White, Kyle and Souare.

If Betsey does play mostly at small forward, he obtains good size for the position, which general manager Alex Kline discussed in an interview with SU radio voice Matt Park that was released Wednesday. Another option for the Orange at small forward is the 6-foot-5 Kingz, who averaged 11.8 points at Oregon State last season.

In his first collegiate campaign, Betsey played sparingly, averaging 11.1 minutes across 34 contests. One of Betsey’s bright spots was his 3-point shooting, draining 32.1% of his triples. Among Syracuse players who made at least 15 3s last year, that clip would’ve been tied for the third-best percentage on the team.

However, the forward made just 35.7% of his field goals and played under 10 minutes in each of Cincinnati’s last eight games. With wings Chris Bell, Lucas Taylor and Petar Majstorovic no longer with the program, Betsey will look to crack a bigger role with SU.
