Syracuse added two more recruits to its 2027 recruiting class Wednesday. Four-star attack Max Kruger and three-star faceoff specialist Gentry Curtis both announced their commitments to the Orange on social media. They’re the fifth and sixth players to commit to SU in the past seven days.
According to Prep Lacrosse, Kruger is the No. 25 overall recruit in the class and is the first attack to commit to Syracuse in the class of 2027. Kruger attends the Hill Academy in Ontario, Canada, one of the premier prep schools in the country. Standing at 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, Prep Lacrosse’s Ty Xanders described Kruger as an “incredibly slick playmaker.”
The Canadian is also a strong box lacrosse player, spending the past two summers with the Orangeville Northmen in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League, playing alongside SU attacks Joey Spallina and Trey Deere. In 2025, Kruger lit up the OJLL. Across 40 games, he recorded 158 points, 90 assists and 68 goals.
Syracuse has molded its offense around box players over the past few years. Owen Hiltz and Sam English were proficient box players, both of whom have since graduated. Spallina, Finn Thomson and Deere have all displayed proficiency as box players as well.
Playing in the OJLL was crucial in Spallina’s development following his freshman season. After recording 68 points, he combined for 178 points as a sophomore and junior. Though Spallina will never play alongside Kruger, SU head coach Gary Gait has shown a willingness to recruit box players due to their creativity in tight spaces.
Curtis is 5-foot-9, 170 pounds and hails from Overland Park, Kansas, but attends Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio. John Mullen currently has a stranglehold on Syracuse’s faceoff unit, but by Curtis’ freshman year, the starting position will be up for grabs.
On top of Kruger and Curtis, Syracuse has gained the services of top-ranked goalie Moe Sobel, Quincy Quillard, Adrian Sweeney and Garrett Sullivan.
