Syracuse star wide receiver Darrell Gill Jr. will enter the transfer portal, 247Sports reported Monday night. Gill tallied 506 receiving yards and five touchdowns in his junior campaign, building off a strong sophomore season.
Gill carved out a significant role in SU’s explosive passing offense in 2024. He recorded 570 receiving yards while playing behind the more experienced Trebor Pena and Jackson Meeks. He became a deep threat versus UConn, putting up 185 receiving yards.
A year later, Gill returned to SU and starred alongside Johntay Cook and Justus Ross-Simmons in the early going. With Steve Angeli under center, Gill built a catalog of highlight plays, with one catch versus Colgate earning the “You Got Mossed” segment on ESPN.
He scored two touchdowns against Colgate on 152 receiving yards and added another touchdown in Syracuse’s win at Clemson. Then, as Angeli went down with a season-ending injury, Gill’s production faltered. He tallied over 50 receiving yards just one time through SU’s final eight games.
Gill said he would return to the Orange for 2026 in late November, but the ever-changing landscape of the transfer portal changes things. Running back Yasin Willis said the same and also intends to enter the transfer portal. The Daily Orange spoke with Gill following SU’s season-finale against Boston College, speaking warmly about teaming back up with Angeli and fixing Syracuse’s issues in the offseason.
Gill entering the transfer portal adds to a litany of lost talent in the wide receiver room. Jaylan Hornsby and Emanuel Ross also intend to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2. SU signed five-star recruit Calvin Russell III as an instant addition to the group, and Cook has yet to announce his future.
