A Bel Air, Maryland, native, Stangle waited his turn behind Mike Midkiff and Tom Callahan. In his redshirt junior year, Stangle took over the reins largely on punts while Brown handled field goals and extra points. Stangle became a key part of the unit that produced one of the best punt teams in the country, led by Jack Stonehouse.
With Stonehouse headed for the NFL and Stangle departing, the Orange will rebuild their special teams unit. SU is yet to announce the hiring of a special teams coordinator to replace Ricky Brumfield, and there have been no reports of a possible replacement. The new coordinator will be Syracuse’s fourth special teams coordinator in the last four seasons.
Alabama enters its third season under Kalen Deboer and is coming off a College Football Playoff appearance, where it lost to No. 1 Indiana 38-3 in the Rose Bowl.
