Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs has been named the number one graduate school for public affairs for the 29th time by the U.S. News & World Report, SU announced Tuesday.
SU’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management graduate program also moved up in the U.S. News & World Report rankings to number 54, tied with Baylor University.
The ranking comes as Maxwell passes its 100th anniversary as the nation’s first graduate school to offer a one-year program in public administration. Maxwell Dean David Van Slyke said while the recognition comes at a difficult time, the school is honored to be recognized by peers at higher education institutions dedicated to public service.
The rankings are based on a peer survey from deans, directors and department chairs representing 268 public affairs and public administration master’s programs. Each school is ranked on a five-point scale. Respondents can also nominate schools in 12 subcategories.
Van Slyke said the recognition is a testament to the school’s continued commitment to citizenship and public affairs.
Maxwell remains highly ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s ten subcategories of public affairs, including Environmental Policy and Management, Public Policy Analysis and Social Policy.
